Installing the 3dfx Voodoo card in WindowsCongratulations on your purchase of the most advanced 3D accelerator card in the world, and welcome to the
Quick Install Guide for your new 3dfx graphics card. 3dfx Voodoo4 cards use a single VSA-100 3D/2D accelerator
chip while Voodoo5 cards use two VSA-100 chips in a Voodoo Scalable Architecture configuration for even greater
3D performance. The installation instructions refer to either card as a Voodoo card.

If you have a Voodoo5 card, be sure to note Step 5 in the Hardware installation instructions regarding the
power requirements of the Voodoo5 card.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The Hardware Installation section of this Quick Install Guide has important information that you will need

You should also select the standard VGA display driver to ensure your system's compatibility before you
continue. If you are prompted to restart your system for the changes to take effect, choose instead to
restart later, then use the "Start" menu to shutdown your system normally when you are ready to proceed
with the Hardware Installation.
Hardware Installation
If you are familiar with the installation of computer expansion cards, then you should have no difficulty
installing your new card using the simple instructions below. You should also review the detailed instructions
in the Online User's Guide to familiarize yourself with the hardware installation steps before you start.
When you are ready, shutdown your system and use these Hardware Installation Instructions to install your new
Voodoo accelerator card:
1. Turn off and unplug your computer, then open the computer's case. Refer to the manual for your computer for
      detailed instructions.
2. Locate the cable connecting your monitor to the current display card and disconnect it from the card.
3. Remove the screw securing the mounting bracket of the old card and remove the old card from your computer.
4. Locate the appropriate expansion slot for your new Voodoo card and install the Voodoo card into that slot.
5. Connect your monitor's cable to the Monitor Connector on the Voodoo card.
Voodoo5 Owners:You must connect one of your computer's disk drive power cables to the Power Supply Connector on your new
Voodoo5 card. Use the included Power Supply Y-cable, if necessary, to connect the Voodoo5 card to the
power cable used by one of the system's disk drives.
Then simply replace the computer's cover, restart the system, and proceed with the Software Installation
instructions.

When you have replaced the old display card with your new card and restarted your computer, the system will
recognize the new hardware you have installed and prompt you to install device drivers for it. Place the
3dfx Installation CD in your CD-ROM drive and direct Windows to locate and install the Voodoo display driver
from the CD. You will then be prompted to restart your system.

Be sure to remove the 3dfx Installation CD from the CD-ROM drive of your computer, and then put it back into
your CD-ROM drive after the system has restarted. The Quick Install software will then open to the Software
Installation section of these instructions so you can choose your software options and then finish the
installation.
Software Installation
Select your software installation options to install 3dfx Tools and other software that may be needed to
complete the installation, and to reinstall the Voodoo card's display drivers (if you ever need to). If
you select the "Install Microsoft DirectX" option, then the Microsoft DirectX software on your system
will be compared to the DirectX version on the 3dfx Installation CD and automatically updated if
necessary. When the installation process is complete, you will be prompted to restart your computer for
the changes to take effect.

Remove the 3dfx Installation CD from the CD-ROM drive and restart your computer and the installation of
your new 3dfx Voodoo accelerator card is complete!
